A journey through Oman today often directs the traveler's gaze backward through
the eyeholes of tradition. But more than that, it provides a forward look at a land
where modest but persistent progress steadily improves the Omani's lot.
As an american photojournalist based for 4 years inthe middle east, I had witnessed the
gradual evoluation of the new freedoms in Oman during earlier travels in 1970and 1971. Startling
advances greeted me last year on my thids visity to the country.
